Annealing

Entity resolution and ontology alignment are constraint satisfaction problems. You have candidate matches, soft and hard constraints, cardinality, transitivity, inverse properties, and you need a globally consistent assignment that minimizes conflict.
Classical solvers do this greedily. Good enough for small graphs. Increasingly inadequate at scale.
Quantum annealing is structurally better suited to this problem class. D-Wave’s architecture maps QUBO problems directly onto physical qubits. Constraint satisfaction over a knowledge graph can be formulated as exactly this kind of quadratic unconstrained binary optimization. The annealer tunnels through energy barriers that trap classical solvers in local minima.
We’re not there yet 😊 But the bridge between quantum optimization and symbolic AI is being built now, mostly in biomedical labs.
